<h4>Position Description</h4>
<p>The Department of Neurology at the University of Washington School of Medicine is hiring a pediatric neurologist to specialize in neuro-oncology in the Division of Pediatric Neurology at Seattle Children’s Hospital. The Division of Pediatric Neurology at Seattle Children’s Hospital has approximately 30 faculty, including nine epileptologists and multiple subspecialty programs. This position will be expected to provide excellent clinical care in general pediatric neurology and pediatric neuro-oncology and will require active participation in clinical and teaching programs. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. This is a full-time appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor WOT (without tenure by reason of funding). Assistant Professors are <em>eligible for multi-year</em> appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. This position will require active participation in clinical and teaching programs.</p>
<p>Assistant Professors are <em>eligible for multi-year</em> appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). <p>Our salaries are bench marked based on the AAMC scale. Other compensation associated with this position may or may not include Startup, Relocation Incentive/Moving Allowance Administrative supplement for a defined administrative role, or Productivity Incentive.</p>
<p>Title, rank and salary is commensurate with experience. The anticipated start date of this appointment is July 1, 2026.</p>
<h4>Qualifications</h4>
<p>Requirements include an M.D., D.O., or foreign equivalent. Candidates must be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Washington, and be either board eligible or board certified in a related field.</p>

<p><strong>Project description</strong></p>
<p>The postdoctoral fellow will explore synaptic processes and white matter pathways between remote brain areas in vivo in animal models that underlie plasticity in the prefrontal cortex of mice. We will focus on neuronal micro- and macro-circuits that influence our feeding behavior, which includes the prefrontal cortex with a focus on selection between stimuli of different value and its plasticity. The project will be carried out by applying “all optical physiology” methods, i.e. a combination of calcium imaging with optogenetics, in freely behaving animals in Paolo Medini’s lab, in collaboration with Olof Lagerlöf and UmU’s new visiting professor Valentina Emiliani.</p>
<p><strong>Tasks</strong></p>
<p>The postdoctoral fellow will work with animal models (mouse) with a combination of techniques to measure and influence micro- and macro-circuits in vivo. Techniques include one/two-photon microscopy, electrophysiology, chemo-optogenetics. Behavioral measurements will be performed in collaboration with Olof Lagerlöf’s group. The postdoc will image (and influence with opto-chemogenetics) the network representation of stimuli of different economic/hedonic value and its plasticity with two-photon microscopy. Other methods such as functional MRI and PET can potentially be included to study plasticity in macrocircuits.<strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong>Eligibility</strong></p>
<p>Eligible to be employed as a postdoc is someone who has completed a doctoral degree, or a foreign degree that is considered equivalent to a doctoral degree, in biomedical or physical subjects relevant to the execution of the project. This eligibility requirement must be met at the latest at the time the employment decision is made.<strong> </strong></p>
<p>Requirements for employment: documented experience with neurophysiological methods, in particular imaging of brain networks, chemo-optogenetics in behaving animals.</p>
<p>Since the position as a postdoc is a merit position for junior researchers, we primarily target those who have a doctoral degree that is not older than three years from the application deadline. If there are special reasons, a person who has completed a doctoral degree earlier may be considered. Special reasons include leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical service, positions of trust within trade unions or other similar circumstances, as well as service/assignments relevant to the subject area.<strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong>Meritorious knowledge and experience:</strong></p>
<p>Documented experience of behavioral measurements in animals and programming with Phyton/Matlab is a meritorious achievement. Documented experience with calcium imaging and/or optogenetics, as well as behavioral measurements is particularly meritorious.</p>

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR) is an academic research Center that pioneers groundbreaking research towards better cardiometabolic health. <p><strong>Our Research</strong><br />
The <a href="https://cbmr.ku.dk/research/research-groups/gerhart-hines-group/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Gerhart-Hines Group</a> is broadly interested in how neuronal, hormonal, nutrient, and bioenergetic signalling pathways collectively orchestrate systemic energy homeostasis and defend metabolic health. We explore coordination between peripheral and central homeostatic pathways through a combinatorial approach that brings together gene, protein, metabolite, and lipid profiling with cutting-edge in vivo physiological phenotyping and pharmacological engineering. Through this comprehensive approach, we believe we are poised to make transformative breakthroughs in the fundamental understanding of metabolic adaptation and to develop these findings into innovative strategies for counteracting cardiometabolic disease.</p>

<p><strong>Project Description</strong><br />
The bidirectional communication between the adipose tissue and the central nervous system is crucial for sustaining metabolic homeostasis and health. We recently identified a novel secretory cell type in mouse and human adipose tissue that we believe plays a central role in this fat-brain signaling axis. In this project, we would like to interrogate the role of these cells in modulating systemic energy homeostasis. Additionally, we will functionally investigate what specific factors or signals these cells are releasing and explore the therapeutic potential of select secreted factors for mitigating metabolic disease. Given that we find this cell population to be linked to the control of energy-expenditure, this project holds the potential to identify therapeutic candidates that would ideally complement the current appetite-suppressing obesity drugs. During the project, you will work with primary mouse and human adipocytes, leverage newly generated genetic mouse models, employ novel pharmacological and viral targeting strategies, and learn advanced metabolic phenotyping techniques. The project is co-supervised by Associate Professor Camilla Scheele, who is a world leader in human adipose physiology. You will also have the opportunity to work with an international team of collaborators both at CBMR (Assoc. Prof. Brice Emanuelli and Prof. Ruth Loos) and abroad (Prof. Patrick Seale, Prof. Henning Fenselau, and Assoc. Prof. Lawrence Kazak).</p>

The PhD fellowships within the CBMR International PhD &amp; Postdoc Program are open for applicants that hold a Master’s degree. The Master’s degree has to be obtained before February 1, 2026. <h3><strong>Description of the research group</strong></h3>
<p>The Molecular Neuroanatomy research group at the Department of Experimental Medical Sciences within the Faculty of Medicine conducts research in molecular and functional neuroanatomy with a focus on increasing the spatial precision of treatment methods such as deep brain stimulation (DBS) and discovering the underlying neurobiological mechanisms in neurodegenerative diseases in order to improve current treatment. Our primary focus is depression, anxiety and apathy in Parkinson&#8217;s disease. We are part of the strategic research area MultiPark.</p>

<h3><strong>Project description</strong></h3>
<p><strong> </strong>Our research group is working towards unravelling the neurobiology behind psychiatric symptoms in neurodegenerative diseases, primarily Parkinson&#8217;s disease, with a focus on emotions, including depression. The subthalamic nucleus (STN), which regulates motor function, cognition, and emotions, exhibits pathology in Parkinson&#8217;s disease, and is an important target area for the treatment of the disease´s motor symptoms with Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS). Our goal is to find out how the STN functions in the normal state and in Parkinson&#8217;s models, to find out what goes wrong in Parkinson&#8217;s disease, and how Parkinson&#8217;s symptoms can be better treated with precision stimulation, such as DBS. We are particularly interested in the neuropsychiatric symptom picture in Parkinson&#8217;s disease and in developing better treatment. We have a specific interest in the anatomical-functional association within the STN, and in structures in its vicinity.</p>
<p>In order to obtain high neuroanatomical selectivity, we use transgenic mice with a focus on the Cre-Lox system, and specific promoters as well as viral vectors for optogenetic control of neuronal activity and models of Parkinson&#8217;s disease. This postdoc project will investigate how different compositions of neurons in the relevant brain area respond to different types of stimulation, how this affects behavior and signaling in neuronal circuits. By comparing spatially selective signaling, for example through optogenetics, with the clinical treatment method DBS, the goal is to identify the optimal neurons for therapeutical stimulation leading to alleviation of non-motor symptoms, such as depression.</p>
<h3><strong>Tasks and responsibilities</strong></h3>
<p>As a Postdoctoral Fellow in the field of molecular neuroanatomy with a focus on neurobiological stimulation strategies for the treatment of Parkinson&#8217;s disease, you are responsible for designing and executing the project, producing data, analyzing and reporting scientific projects in writing and orally, in collaboration with the research group leader and members of the group. Your tasks include laboratory animal handling including genotyping, stereotactic brain surgery, behavioral tests, optogenetics and/or chemogenetics (DREADDS). You will also use histological and molecular biological methods and microscopy.</p>
<p>The project is part of a larger research area and may also include administrative work and collaboration with other disciplines and research groups. Other tasks within the research group may also be relevant, such as involvement in other projects in the research group, administration, conference travel, presentations of research and supervision of students.</p>
<h3><strong>Qualifications</strong></h3>
<p><strong>Requirements for the position are:</strong></p>
<p>The position requires you to have a PhD in medical, biomedical, biological sciences or similar, with a focus on neurobiology or neuroscience.</p>
<p>Other requirements:</p>
<ul>
<li>Experience of working in a laboratory environment in neurobiological research, as well as GLP (Good Laboratory Praxis).</li>
<li>Documented and solid experience of working with laboratory animals including mouse genetics (transgenic mice/genotyping), optogenetics and/or chemogenetics, stereotactic surgery and behavioral testing.</li>

<p>A Postdoctoral Associate position is available in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Our group studies substance use disorders and epigenetic regulatory mechanisms in neural cells. We are looking for an applicant to work on a project that will profile neural and microglial chromatin remodeling across various phases of drug and alcohol-taking. The successful candidate will be able to generate and interpret high-quality genomics datasets (RNA-Seq; CUT&amp;Tag) and identify gene candidates for behavioral validation and therapeutic development. The Post Doctoral Associate performs scientific research and studies under the supervision of managing staff. Moreover, the Post Doctoral Associate promotes institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community. <b>This position has been approved for an one year assignment.</b></p>

<p><strong>Project Context</strong></p>
<p>The position is part of an ambitious interdisciplinary research program aiming to model disease trajectories, integrate multimodal biomarkers, and uncover individual risk and resilience factors for brain ageing and neurodegenerative disorders. The group combines Deep learning, Bayesian inference, and latent variable modeling to establish robust and interpretable models of individual differences in aging and disease progression using data from large-scale neuroimaging studies, cognitive phenotyping, and molecular biomarkers. The project is embedded in a state-of-the-art research infrastructure, high-performance computing, large cohorts, and benefits from the collaborative environment of the DZNE (including 10 sites), the University Hospital Magdeburg, and the CRC 1436.</p>

<h4>Your role in detail</h4>
<ul>
<li>Conduct and publish high-impact research on AI-based models of brain ageing and neurodegeneration.</li>
<li>Design and implement novel representation learning architectures (e.g., SSL, contrastive learning, uncertainty quantification) and disease progression models (e.g., latent multimodal dynamics).</li>
<li>Integrate high-dimensional multimodal data (MRI, PET, cognitive, fluid biomarkers) into cohesive models.</li>
<li>Contribute to collaborative studies and mentoring of junior researchers.</li>
</ul>
<h4>Your qualifications</h4>

<li>PhD in Machine Learning, Computational Neuroscience, Biomedical Data Science, Physics, Applied Math, or related fields.</li>
<li>Proven expertise in at least one of the following: representation learning, disease progression modeling, Bayesian or deep generative models.</li>
<li>Proficient in Python and common ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn).</li>

<p>The research will be part of the recent ERC Starting Grant &#8220;Atomic Scale Quantum Sensing and Information with Molecular Nanostructures on a Scanning Probe Tip&#8221; (ERC-2024-StG, QuSINT). Our research focuses on the study of quantum magnetism at the atomic scale. We build artificial quantum architectures from single atoms and molecules on surfaces and on probe tips, control their spin states, and study qubit systems. A particular emphasis is on exploiting the manipulation capabilities of scanning probe microscopes to fabricate molecular quantum sensors on probe tips to detect the tiny electric and magnetic fields of quantum systems at the atomic level (Nature Nanotechnology 19, 1466 (2024)), e.g. in emerging quantum materials such as 2D materials.<br />
The research is carried out in our newly established laboratory with two millikelvin scanning probe microscopes in ultra-high vacuum with adiabatic demagnetization refrigeration (Rev. Sci. Instrum. 92, 063701, (2021)). The millikelvin systems reach temperatures below 30 mK and allow the application of magnetic fields to the sample. We characterize the magnetic properties of the quantum systems using standard spectroscopic detection schemes and electron spin resonance.<br />

Our research focuses on the study of quantum magnetism at the atomic scale. We build artificial quantum architectures from single atoms and molecules on surfaces and on probe tips, control their spin states, and study qubit systems. A particular emphasis is on exploiting the manipulation capabilities of scanning probe microscopes to fabricate molecular quantum sensors on probe tips to detect the tiny electric and magnetic fields of quantum systems at the atomic level (Nature Nanotechnology 19, 1466 (2024)), e.g. in emerging quantum materials such as 2D materials.<br />

<p class="text-align-center"><strong>Postdoctoral Scientist in Functional Brain Imaging for Precision Medicine in Depression</strong></p>
<p><strong>Job Description</strong></p>
<p>We are seeking a well-trained postdoctoral scientist who is motivated to develop and apply expertise in functional neuroimaging in precision medicine studies in depression. Especially sought are candidates with expertise in functional magnetic resonance imaging analyses, with a particular interest in using functional MRI to guide personalized treatment for depression and co-occurring trauma-related disorders.</p>
<p>The candidate will work on a priority research program in which individuals are assessed with functional MRI, behavioral, and symptom measures before, during, and after treatment. Treatment includes selectively targeted pharmacotherapy and exploratory, rapid acting therapies, including guanfacine, MDMA-assisted cognitive processing therapy and TMS.</p>
<p>Supporting this program—and this position—are NIH awards under NIMH’s priority initiative, Individually Measured Phenotypes to Advance Computational Translation in Mental Health (IMPACT-MH), and a P50 Center of Excellence. The overarching goal is to use brain imaging-derived circuit measures to identify biotypes of disorder, understand how these biotypes relate to symptoms and behaviors, and predict personalized treatment outcomes. This work is supported by the lab’s shared framework of harmonized assessments and analytic pipelines across projects.</p>
<p>The postdoctoral scientist will play a pivotal role in the following areas:</p>
<ol>
<li>Scientific Coordination</li>
</ol>
<p>Take the lead in managing the primary research outcomes of a priority project, while also contributing to secondary efforts. Responsibilities include gaining deep familiarity with study assessments, protocols, data structures, and—where applicable—recruitment strategies. The postdoc will collaborate closely with research coordinators, fellow postdocs, and receive mentorship from academic investigators and project PIs.</p>

<li>Analyses and Publications</li>
</ol>
<p>Lead analyses of the primary project’s outcomes and drive the preparation of first-author manuscripts. Findings will be presented within lab meetings and at scientific conferences. The postdoc will also have the opportunity to contribute to methods development, particularly in refining circuit quantification and biotype stratification approaches to increase the clinical relevance and translatability of the research. These methodological innovations will be applicable across projects and open additional avenues for collaborative publications.</p>

<p><strong>High Throughput Drug Screening for Neurodegenerative Diseases Across the Lifespan</strong></p>
<p>Stanford Neurology is a world leader in Neuroscience research and clinical care, particularly in the areas of Neurodegeneration, Brain Rejuvenation, Epilepsy and Pediatric Neurology. We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified post-doctoral scholar to lead studies using state-of-the-art high throughput drug screening technology to identify novel therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases, including a rare pediatric-onset disease (beta-propeller associated neurodegeneration, BPAN), and more commonly encountered adult-onset diseases such as Alzheimer&#8217;s disease and Parkinson&#8217;s disease.</p>
<p>BPAN is a severe and life-threatening neurodegenerative disease that manifests during childhood, with epilepsy, developmental delay, Alzheimer&#8217;s disease-like dementia and Parkinson&#8217;s disease-like movement impairments. There are no effective treatments to slow or reverse the course of BPAN. Our work on BPAN will provide insight into the underlying biology and potential treatment of other neurodegenerative diseases that commonly affect adults, such as Alzheimer&#8217;s disease and Parkinson&#8217;s disease.</p>
<p>The candidate who is selected for the position will be responsible for (1) engineering BPAN genetic variants into cell lines; (2) developing cellular assays including of autophagy function and cellular survival; (3) working with the Stanford high throughput drug screening core facility; (4) testing compounds of interest in iPSC-derived neurons and (5) collaborating with multiple labs to coordinate further in vitro and in vivo testing of select compounds in preclinical studies.</p>
<p><strong>Major responsibilities:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Create and maintain cell lines expressing BPAN-associated pathogenic variants in the <em>WDR45</em> gene, using cell types such as fibroblasts and human iPSCs</li>
<li>Reprogram human iPSCs to various neuronal cell types for use in drug assays</li>
<li>Design and refine cellular assays of autophagy and related cellular functions for high throughput drug testing</li>
<li>Collaborate on a regular basis with other Stanford labs and core facilities at Stanford including the Stanford University Cardiovascular Institute Biobank, the Stanford Alzheimer&#8217;s Disease Research Center, and the Stanford High Throughput Knowledge Screening Center.  Collaborating individuals include physicians, scientists, staff and trainees.</li>
<li>Present findings regularly at lab meetings and conferences</li>
<li>Contribute to creating figures, writing research manuscripts and grant proposals.</li>
<li>Contribute to training and mentorship of students and research assistants.</li>
