USC Clinical Trial Office (CTO) is seeking a Contracts Manager. The Contract Manager shall serve as a subject matter expert in the administration of the most complex and specialized of Industry sponsored contracts for the conduct of clinical trials. The candidate must be familiar with regulations governing clinical trials. Professional abilities are utilized in budget, contract, and agreement development and negotiation to cover PI and institutional costs. The Contract Manager knows and follows institutional and departmental policies and procedures, and guides PIs and staff on policy as they apply to research administration. The candidate should possess skills to conduct in-service training seminars for PIs and staff as needed. This role serves as an information source for the department and research community. Must be able to work in a fast paced, high volume environment with frequent interruptions.

This position oversees the contracts team for the clinical trials office and is responsible for management of workloads and productivity monitoring for all contract officers negotiating industry sponsored clinical trial agreements. The contracts manager serves as a point of escalation for staff to approve clinical trial agreements terms surrounding intellectual property, indemnification, data ownership and other regulatory terms within clinical trial agreements.

This position requires the analytical abilities to identify and review problem situations, make independent decisions and/or recommend solutions. Must be able to communicate to individuals at varying levels effectively verbally and in writing. A high degree of accuracy is mandatory when negotiating contractual terms. Must be able to manage an unpredictable and voluminous workload while providing quality service and meet deadlines through organization, interpersonal skills, and by accurate prioritization of activities. Preferred Education: J.D or Bachelor’s Degree and combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education

Preferred Experience: 10 years of demonstrated ability in the independent administration of research grants and contracts in a central administration office, or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.

The annual base salary range for this position is $113,448.90-$150,000.00 When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
