About PhD Program,

At the Trulaske College of Business, we train researchers and instructors who will go on to make a difference in fiscal policy and business practices as well as in the lives of future generations in business. The program is rigorous and dynamic, combining a strong analytical focus with the flexibility to tailor your studies to the topics that interest you.

The Trulaske College of Business doctoral programs at Mizzou prepare graduates for careers as effective university researchers and teachers or for senior research positions in business or government. And we’re pretty good at it. In fact, our students have 100% placement after graduation. To this end, coursework involves research activities such as literature review and critique, theoretical modeling, research design, computer-assisted empirical analysis, and preparation of proposals and research papers.

Most PhD candidates are provided the opportunity to teach undergraduate courses in their specialty area. In addition, students are expected to participate in national and regional academic conferences and are encouraged to work with faculty in developing individual research and teaching skills. PhD candidates can concentrate their studies on Accountancy, Finance, Marketing, and Management. The programs are designed for students wishing to pursue full-time PhD study.  Online options are not available.

PhD Program Degree Eligibility with GPA,

  • Minimum GMAT or GRE score: There is no minimum score required, however, typically successful candidates score well on their exam.
  • Outstanding performance in previous academic work
  • Maturity and potential required for making scholarly contributions to their field of interest

MU requires a minimum of 72 credit hours, including 15 hours of 8000-9000 level coursework exclusive of readings, research, problems and independent study experiences, beyond the bachelor’s degree for the PhD and EdD degrees.

A student’s doctoral program committee must approve all course work used to satisfy the credit-hour requirement and may require additional course work beyond these minimums.

With program approval, up to 30 hours of coursework for which professional credit was received may be counted toward the 72 credit-hour requirement.  The student must have an undergraduate degree, and a policy for determining the relevance of the coursework to the current Ph.D. program must be established at the program level, and submitted to the Graduate School.

PhD Funding Coverage,

Additional funding is also available through graduate fellowships provided at the university level. PhD students generally receive a full tuition waiver. These funds are available to doctoral students in good standing, and should be accessed through your departmental office with the approval of your department chair.
