With a track record of global leadership in bone marrow transplantation, HIV/AIDS prevention, immunotherapy and COVID-19 vaccines, Fred Hutch has earned a reputation as one of the world’s leading cancer, infectious disease and biomedical research centers. Fred Hutch operates eight clinical care sites that provide medical oncology, infusion, radiation, proton therapy and related services, and network affiliations with hospitals in five states. The Dey Laboratory in the Translational Science and Therapeutics Division at Fred Hutch seeks enthusiastic and creative individuals who are interested in applying experimental and computational methods to the study of the gut microbiome (i.e., the micro-organisms that reside within the gastrointestinal tract) and its effects on health and disease. The lab’s primary focus is on developing microbiome-based tools for improving colorectal cancer screening and prevention. Our work involves in vitro and in vivo investigations to elucidate mechanisms by which gut bacteria induce precancer and cancer states. This is a short-term appointment to help complete two projects necessitating machine learning expertise.
