Research Associate @Technical University of Munich posted 4 weeks ago

Job Description

The Venture Labs are looking for a research assistant to join the team at the Venture Lab ChemSPACE as soon as possible.

Are you looking for more contact with innovative ideas, perhaps even a gateway into Munich’s startup community? Then become part of the TUM Venture Labs, because they’re right in the thick of it! As a joint initiative of the Technical University of Munich (TU Munich), the top-ranked university in the EU for years with a strategic focus as an ‘entrepreneurial university,’ and UnternehmerTUM, Europe’s leading startup factory, with more than one scalable spin-off per week and a total of over €2 billion in venture capital annually, the network of 12 TUM Venture Labs pursues the goal of developing Munich into Europe’s most important integrated technology hub. To this end, the TUM Venture Lab ChemSPACE channels research-related startup activities in the field of chemistry with the goal of comprehensively supporting the establishment of scalable startups in this field, from initial inspiration to solidly financed scale-up. From identifying relevant questions to prototype implementation, research transfer, and the actual founding of a company, all aspects and various phases of a startup team’s development are supported. For this purpose we are looking for a

Project manager in the TUM Venture Lab ChemSPACE (m/f/d)

(Part-time (50%), initially limited to 2 years)

You will help us:

  • Organizing and managing laboratories – ensuring a high-performance and innovative laboratory infrastructure for prospective start-ups; enforcing the laboratory’s safety structure and rules, assisting with laboratory equipment, establishing requirements for new equipment; and expanding the scalable laboratory management structure to optimally support our teams.
  • Supporting and developing teams – You will work closely with the teams in ChemSPACE and support them in their daily challenges – from organizing and providing laboratory equipment and chemicals to coordinating joint meetings. You will also provide strategic advice to the teams, particularly on questions regarding financing and the further development of their projects.
  • Inspiring student talent and scientists to become entrepreneurs – In order to make a sustainable contribution to solving global challenges in medicine, combating climate change and increasing planetary resilience, innovative ideas in chemistry need to be transformed into scalable products with real-world impact.
  • Building a community – Support in building a comprehensive chemistry start-up community with other chemistry institutions, established companies, customers/interested parties and research.
  • Increase awareness – support with communication measures within and outside the department, maintenance of the website and participation in shaping the external image of the Venture Lab ChemSPACE, as well as further development of the Venture Lab through creative ideas and suggestions.
  • Transferring knowledge – supporting the development of new concepts and programs for scientists, if necessary as a supplement to existing courses at UTUM/TUM

What you bring with you:

  • Degree in chemistry, chemical engineering or a comparable scientific university degree (preferably with a doctorate)
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and preferably initial experience in entrepreneurship
  • Experience with the work and requirements in chemical laboratories, preferably with initial experience in the field of laboratory safety and safety management
  • Fluent written and spoken German and English
  • Experience in project management and strong organizational skills
  • High social and communication skills, as well as enjoyment of working with young entrepreneurial talents and teams
  • Proactive working style characterized by initiative paired with teamwork

For this we offer:

  • Start-up like working mode – You work in Europe’s leading sciencepreneurship hub in a young, challenging and dynamic environment
  • Unique network – You are embedded in a network of excellent research and start-up institutes, starting from the TUM School of Natural Sciences to the entire TU Munich and UnternehmerTUM
  • Start-up community – You will work directly with the unicorns of tomorrow and play a key role in shaping the “Silicon Valley on the Isar”.
