Job Description

The CNRS Laboratory of Physics and Materials Studies (LPEM) is seeking a student on an apprenticeship contract to support the use and contribute to the maintenance of instruments in the Nanotech instrument platform dedicated to the development and study of the properties of materials at the nanometric scale, including electron microscopes. This opportunity will allow the apprentice to develop practical skills in cutting-edge scientific instrumentation and contribute to the laboratory’s research activities.

Main missions:
• Assistance in the use of instruments: Participate in the preparation, implementation and analysis of experiments using electron microscopes and other equipment on the platform,
• Preventive and corrective maintenance: Assist in the maintenance of instruments to ensure their proper functioning and intervene in the event of malfunction under the supervision of the apprenticeship supervisor within the laboratory’s engineering department,
• Support for researchers: Collaborate with researchers to optimize experimental protocols and ensure the quality of the data collected,
• Management of consumables: Monitor the inventory of consumables necessary for the operation of the equipment and participate in orders in conjunction with the administrative department,
• Documentation and reporting: Keep technical documents relating to the equipment up to date and write reports on the interventions carried out.

You will join the Laboratory of Physics and Materials Studies (LPEM) located at the École Supérieure de Physique et de Chimie Industrielles – ESPCI – of the City of Paris.
ESPCI is both a Grande École of engineering and a research institute (11 joint research units) of international reputation enjoying a strong culture of scientific excellence (6 Nobel Prizes). ESPCI is located in the heart of Paris, in the 5th arrondissement.
The moderate size of the Laboratory (around 67 people) allows for a quick and friendly integration.

Description of the profile sought

• Training: Preparation of a Master’s degree in the field of physics (optics, materials, electronics, etc.) or any other relevant field,
• Technical skills: Interest in cutting-edge technologies in nanoscience and knowledge of the basic principles of electron microscopy,
• Skills: Rigor, autonomy, curiosity, team spirit and ability to work in a research environment

Special conditions of exercise

• The apprentice will benefit from specific training on laboratory equipment,
• The position requires delicate handling of sensitive equipment and strict compliance with safety protocols.

LANGUAGES

• Languages: Fluency in French required; knowledge of scientific English desired.
