Posting Summary
Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist III for the Public Health Research Institute within New Jersey Medical School.
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator and Research Operations Assistant Director, conducts research activities in diagnostic microbiology within a specialized biosafety level three(BSL3) containment laboratory. May be responsible for the management of a small-sized laboratory area. Assists the Principal Investigator with budgetary, training and administrative responsibilities, income revenue streams.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
Cultures and quantitates pathogenic and non-pathogenic bacteria and viruses including M. Tuberculosis and SARSCoV2 requiring work in BSL3 facilities.
Performs detailed MICs and DNA/RNA extraction of above described bacteria using various systems and performs preliminary analysis.
Assists in the development and testing of new assays to detect bacteria and viruses from various body sites and clinical matrixes.
Assists in writing IRB and IBC submissions.
Assists in obtaining informed consent and collecting and processing non-invasive samples from study participants according to experimental protocols.
Analyses, organizes and presents the results of experiments to Rutgers and extramural collaborators.
Works safely in a BSL3 environment.

Salary Details A maximum of $61,512 is budgeted for this position.
Minimum Salary 60543.00
Mid Range Salary 72444.00
Maximum Salary 85865.00

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
Master’s Degree in a relevant science plus one (1) year of related research experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant science plus two (2) years of related research experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience in microbiological and bimolecular techniques with BSL2 and BSL3 bacterial pathogens.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with virulent M. tuberculosis is preferred.
