Job description
Are you an organizationally strong technology enthusiast who gets excited about leading and supporting a team? Are you at home in organizing and managing the management and maintenance of buildings and are you at ease in an environment that is changing? Then the position of team leader management technicians at the University of Groningen (RUG) is exactly what you are looking for!
We are looking for an experienced and driven team leader who is ultimately responsible for the Management Technicians team. In this role, you will also play a crucial role in the development of our Management & Maintenance (M&M) department and the broader Real Estate organization.
Why do you want to fulfill this role?
1. Daily contribution to research and education: as a team leader, you play a crucial role in ensuring the optimal functioning, maintenance and development of our building assets, so that the education and research of the RUG can continue to function optimally.
2. Social character: legal frameworks, social developments and international agreements lead to new challenges, but also to opportunities. Within these frameworks, you work together with colleagues within the real estate and facilities department on the efficient maintenance of the RUG’s real estate.
As team leader management technicians, you will directly manage approximately 17 employees: management technicians and colleagues from the Daily Management and Monitoring team. The management technicians are generalists in the field of technology. They are the first point of contact within the faculties, monitor preventive and corrective maintenance and guide external maintenance parties. The Daily Management and Monitoring team started as a separate unit in 2024. These colleagues work with data from the building management system, analyze trends and advise on optimizing building installations.
As team leader, your task is to make these two teams a well-collaborating unit. You connect to existing processes and working methods within B&O and the broader Real Estate Organization, and contribute to improving and securing them. In addition, you work with the management technicians to ensure adequate maintenance of the assets by third parties, as agreed with the contract partners of the Real Estate Organization.
You regularly coordinate with colleagues from the facility organization and ensure clear coordination of expectations, both within and outside the Real Estate organization. Together with the team leader asset management, the asset owners and the head of B&O, you form the B&O staff team. As a team, you work on the further professionalization and future-proofing of the department.
As a team leader of management technicians you have the following tasks:
- You manage the team of management technicians and Daily Management and Monitoring employees.
- You conduct performance and progress interviews and coordinate recruitment and selection within your team.
- You contribute to tactical consultations with, among others, area managers of the facility organization and coordinate expectations and the services provided.
- You develop a vision on team development within the framework of the B&O department.
- Together with your team, you translate the developments of the department and the real estate organization into team goals, then manage these and monitor the implementation of the breakdown, consignment and calamity process.
- You provide input to use systems (such as Planon) more effectively in work processes.
- You write memos and policy documents and are a project leader for internal development processes.
- You participate in the consignment and emergency service for urgent real estate disruptions outside office hours, which contributes to a rapid solution that guarantees the continuity of education, research and safety.
This is where you will work
At the University of Groningen (RUG), you will work at a broad top university, with attention to all branches of science and technology. Support staff make an essential contribution to the efforts of lecturers and researchers for the development of talent and a better, sustainable society. The RUG wants to be an open academic community with an inclusive and safe working environment that invites you to add your value.
The Management and Maintenance department (B&O) is part of the Real Estate Organization of the RUG. Approximately 40 colleagues work together here on the management and maintenance of the university buildings in the city and region of Groningen. The real estate organization is developing, both technically and in terms of mutual cooperation, which gives the position extra dynamism and challenge.
