The Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Tübingen invites applications for the position of

Tenure-Track Professor for AI in Education (m/f/d)

at the Hector Research Institute of Education Sciences and Psychology to commence as soon as possible.  

The professorship is expected to strengthen the institute’s “Digital Education” research hub and to contribute to taking on a globally visible leading role in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and education in Tübingen through interdisciplinary collaboration.

Possible areas of research focus include machine learning/learning analytics, multimodal assessment, adaptive learning in online settings, and the role of self-regulation in learning with AI. Close networking with the institute (e.g., the other research hubs) is expected, as well as an active contribution to creating a modern vision of research on education and its implementation at the institute. Close interdisciplinary collaboration with members of the faculty, the LEAD Graduate School & Research Network, as well as the Tübingen Center for Digital Education at the University of Tübingen, the Leibniz-Institut für Wissensmedien (IWM), the Tübingen AI Center, and the ELLIS Institute is essential for this position. In addition, the establishment and maintenance of international partnerships are also explicitly desired.

The professorship will be involved in the following study programs: Bachelor and Master of Education Sciences and Psychology, and training of students in teaching-degree programs (Lehramt). In addition, the chosen candidate will be closely involved in training doctoral candidates affiliated with the institute and/or the LEAD Graduate School & Research Network.

The position has a teaching load of four hours per week prior to interim evaluation, and six hours thereafter.

Required qualifications include an outstanding doctorate in a pertinent field (psychology, computer science, data science, education sciences, cognitive science, or a related discipline), internationally acclaimed publications or conference contributions, and ideally third-party funding, as well as teaching experience. The appointment prerequisites of § 51 LHG apply.

This Tenure-Track position is subject to an interim evaluation after four years and a final evaluation after six years. If the final evaluation is positive, this professorship will be upgraded to a full (W3) professorship with no re-advertising of the position.

Those who have completed a habilitation will be excluded.

Applicants for a Tenure-Track professorship with a PhD from Tübingen must have changed universities after completing their doctorates or have worked in academia and/or research for at least two years somewhere other than the University of Tübingen.
