The Department of Pediatrics- School Health Initiative has an exciting opportunity for a Full-time Psychologist to work in Miami.
The Psychologist evaluates patients for mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders. Moreover, the incumbent diagnoses disorders, including nature and extent, and determines the appropriate course of treatment. An employee in this position works closely with coalition partners to conduct assessments, provides individual and group counseling, provides consultation and case management to centers, coordinates training and technical assistance, and meets the goals and objectives of the department. The Psychologist also assists with data analysis and manuscript preparation and presentation.

- Identifies psychological, emotional or behavioral issues, and diagnoses disorders, using information obtained from interviews, tests, records, and reference materials.
- Develops and implements individual treatment plans, specifying type, frequency, intensity, and duration of therapy.
- Interacts with clients to assist them in gaining insight, defining goals, and planning actions to achieve effective personal, social, educational, and vocational development and adjustment. Discusses the treatment of problems with clients.
- Utilizes a variety of treatment methods, such as psychotherapy, hypnosis, behavior modification, stress reduction therapy, psychodrama, and play therapy.
- Counsels individuals and groups regarding problems, such as stress, substance abuse, and family situations.
- Performs timely, complete, and legible documentation of services provided.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of counseling or treatments and accuracy and completeness of diagnoses, and modifies plans and diagnoses.
- Provides individual and group psychotherapy, family therapy, design and implementation of individualized behavior plans, competency groups, psychological assessments and evaluations, and psycho-education.
- Completes and submits reports in time frames designated and follows-up on all recommendations pertaining to responsible areas.
- Supervises and trains the psychology students and the clinical team. Serves as a consultant to the multidisciplinary teams.
- Provides expert testimony in court proceedings and serves on committees.
- Oversees the collection of data on target behaviors.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Department Specific Functions:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â This position works in conjunction with and under the direct supervision of the Director of Mental Health Services for the School Health Initiative.
The Psychologist provides outpatient therapy, group therapy, and consultation liaison to our medical team for children at-risk for mental health problems and writes grants and manuscripts, and conducts ongoing research related to the School Health Initiative and serves as a consultant to the interdisciplinary teams at the School Health Clinics
Duties and Responsibilities – shall include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Participates in outpatient therapy and group therapy.
- Discusses the treatment of problems with clients through implementation of therapy services.
- Provides consultation liaison to our medical team.
- Supervises mental health providers.
- Provides referrals to appropriate community resources
- Monitors research outcomes and works with school health team to maintain efficient participant recruitment strategies, data collection, and data analysis of hypothesized outcomes.
- Participates in the writing and managing of extramural research funding.
- Analyzes data and prepares reports for funding agencies.
- Facilitates the preparation and submission of IRB protocols and manuscripts for publication.
- Documents all visits
- Collects appropriate forms and questionnaires from families needed for program demographics and expected outcomes
- Other duties as assigned

- Doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology preferred
- Licensure in Florida as a psychologist
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience required, with pediatric population preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
- Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.
- Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions.
