ACTIONS is an innovative fellowship that provides a unique opportunity to train the next generation of thought leaders and change agents in nursing leadership and faculty positions around the country. ACTIONS scholars are enthusiastic and passionate about transformational change toward reproductive health and justice.

ACTIONS connects, mentors, and supports scholars pursuing pre- and postdoctoral studies at the School of Nursing (SON), University of California San Francisco (UCSF). The program provides funding for pre- and post-doctoral scholars to design studies that prioritize reproductive justice as the primary approach to reproductive health services provision, including abortion, birth, contraception, healthy sexuality, parenting and pleasure.

Core components of the fellowship are designed to meet the needs of each scholar and foster a collaborative learning environment that is supported through mentorship. The program offers the following:

  • Research and career guidance from UCSF faculty
  • Leadership opportunities and network building through ACTIONS-sponsored events
  • Professional development
  • Support in applying for research grants
  • Stipend and educational support funds

This position is funded by the Reproductive Health Service Corps (RHSC) evaluation project. The Reproductive Health Service Corps is a new, California state-wide initiative to improve access to abortion care and grow the reproductive health workforce. A consortium of six organizations – including ACTIONS – are creating and expanding abortion training programs for all members of the health care team. The ACTIONS team is leading the evaluation of the RHSC, as well as curating and creating reproductive justice curriculum to be integrated across these new abortion training programs.

Job Description

The postdoctoral fellow will work closely with the Principal Investigator, Project Director, and RHSC consortium members to assess, develop, and implement reproductive justice curriculum for the RHSC and other abortion training programs. The postdoctoral fellow will concurrently pursue their own abortion-focused research and training with the goal of advancing to a faculty or other academic or clinical leadership position at the end of the fellowship.

Ideal candidates will have a strong interest in pursuing a career in academic research and teaching. Candidates may have expertise in curriculum development; reproductive justice or other social theory; and/or quantitative or qualitative social science research, including nursing, community-based participatory research, health behavior, demography, epidemiology, sociology, psychology, anthropology, health economics, health services research, program evaluation, or related disciplines.
