We seek a Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Kuan Laboratory in the Neuroscience Department at the Yale School of Medicine. The fully funded position is flexible in timeline and scope, but broadly aims to use functional and anatomical imaging techniques to make fundamental discoveries about the how computations are achieved in brain circuits.

The candidate will develop and employ a variety of techniques in the lab, including volume electron microscopy, synchrotron-based X-ray imaging, in vivo 2-photon calcium imaging, virtual reality behavior, circuit modeling and machine learning. The candidate will receive active training and mentorship from Dr. Kuan in preparation for future career advancements in academic or industry settings.

As a senior member of the lab, the candidate will take a creative leadership role in planning and executing research projects, and assist in training and mentoring more junior lab members including graduate and post-baccalaureate students.

About Us: The Kuan Laboratory aims to understand how neuronal connectivity in brain circuits gives rise to cognition. We develop cutting-edge high-resolution imaging techniques to map out comprehensive circuit diagrams (connectomes) and investigate how circuit architectures support neuronal function and behavior. We aim to foster an environment where individuals of any race, gender identity, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic class, sexual orientation, and geographical background feel supported and empowered. More information about the lab and research topics can be found at kuanlab.org.

Qualifications: Candidates must hold – or expect to obtain soon – a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in neuroscience, biology, engineering, physics, or related fields. Strong skills and previous experience in systems neuroscience and/or engineering are preferred, along with a passion for innovation and understanding brain circuits. We welcome applications from individuals from diverse backgrounds and encourage candidates from underrepresented or minority groups to apply.

Location: The Postdoctoral Associate will be based in the Neuroscience Department of the Yale School of Medicine at 100 College Street, New Haven, CT.

Application Process: Interested applicants should contact Dr. Aaron Kuan, PhD (aaron.kuan@yale.edu) with the Subject line: “Postdoctoral Position in the Kuan Lab” and include a copy of their CV. Please also include a brief description of career goals and proposed start date, and relevant experience.
