The Spatial Sciences Institute at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles invites applications for a one-year Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowship in spatial sciences. Researchers with training in the Institute’s core areas of geographic information science and place, along with the accompanying geospatial technologies, are particularly encouraged to apply.

In addition to research, the successful candidate is expected to teach 3 courses per academic year and to participate in the intellectual life of the Institute and other units on campus.

The Institute, housed in the Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, provides a world-class education for scores of working professionals, researchers, graduate and undergraduate students. In addition, the Institute offers several large general education courses with a spatial sciences foundation.

The Institute has priority on expertise and experience in spatial computing, spatial data science, geodesign, spatial economics and human security and geospatial intelligence. The courses this position might teach could be in one or more of the following areas: cartography and visualization; geodesign; geographic information science; human security and geospatial intelligence; population, health and place; remote sensing and Earth observation; spatial computing; spatial data acquisition; spatial data science; and spatial economics and data analysis.

This fellowship is renewable for a second year, contingent upon approval. This person will receive a stipend of $70,000 plus benefits. Applicants must have received their Ph.D. within the last five years or at the latest by August 16, 2025, the start date of the position. In addition to the letter of application, applicants should include their curriculum vitae, a writing sample, and sample syllabi (attach all as one PDF document during the application process).
