The University of Gothenburg tackles society’s challenges with diverse knowledge. 56 000 students and 6 600 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract researchers and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.

The Department of Philosophy, Linguistics and Theory of Science (FLoV) at the Faculty of Humanities has about 110 employees and a teaching volume of about 350 full-time students. FLoV hosts many major national and international research projects, and train philosophers, logicians, linguists, language technologists, philosophers of science, historians of philosophy, philologists and teachers of philosophy. The department also conducts doctoral programmes and development work in its fields.

Research in practical philosophy includes basic and applied areas. It is particularly strong in applied ethics and political philosophy linked to bioethics, business ethics, and the ethics of science and technology. One professor, one associate professor and a senior lecturer as well as several junior researchers are focusing on bioethics. This research is interdisciplinary and involves collaborations within several inter-faculty centres, of which this call is linked to the Centre for Antibiotic Resistance Research in Gothenburg (CARe) – an interdisciplinary centre with over 150 members from 6 faculties across the University of Gothenburg, the Chalmers Institute of Technology ands the Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

The present position is linked to research efforts in the project Platinea 2.0, which is funded by the Vinnova Innovation Agency to develop and implement social innovations in health care systems and drug supply to improve the long-term sustainable access to effective antibiotics. Platinea 2.0 is led from Uppsala University and involves collaboration with several Swedish universities, the pharmaceutical industry and Swedish public agencies, as well as Nordic co-operation. The work also relates to other research projects within CARe in the field of antibiotic resistance. Erik Malmqvist and Christian Munthe lead the ethics work in Platinea, which concentrates on development of new models for valuing antibiotics, preparedness and sustainability, combining ethics and philosophy with health economic evaluation and analysis of institutional systems, as well as analysis and formulation of relevant social preferences for medicines, public health and sustainability.
