The position

The position is part of the FlexSMART project with the aim of integrating sensing and control within soft/flexible surgical devices for minimally invasive surgery. The project will be conducted within the Surgical Robotics Laboratory and research facilities of the Department of Biomechanical Engineering.
In addition there are excellent opportunities for close collaboration with the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnolgy, clinicians, hospitals and several institutions abroad.

The researcher will need to work independently on the research and also guide PhD candidates, MSc and BSc students working on related topics. They are also expected to contribute towards writing academic articles and present the work at conferences.”

Your profile

  • The successful applicant has (or is about to complete) a PhD with a relevant background in mechanical, biomedical, electrical engineering, or in a closely related discipline.
  • The candidate should possess excellent skills and practical experience in one or more of the following research areas: robotics, mechatronics, mechanical design.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in sensing and actuation of soft and flexible robots. An interview will be part of the selection procedure.

Our offer

  • A full-time contract for 18 months (with possibility of extension);
  • A gross salary between € 4020,- and € 5278,- per month, depending on experience and qualifications;
  • An annual holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary, and an annual end of year bonus of 8.3%;
