JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Accountant (Financial Reporting) serves as a key contributor to the Saint Louis University finance team. This position supports leadership, contributing to the development and maintenance of accurate and timely financial statements and other financial information.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains and strengthen internal controls over related financial reporting
  • Ensures that transactions entered into the University’s general ledger are recorded in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Prepares various annual financial statements, including certain complex statements and footnotes
  • Assists with the annual audit of the University’s financial statements, to include preparing work papers and analysis related to the University’s operations
  • Collaborates with various university departments in the preparation of consolidated general ledger reconciliations
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual journal entries
  • Prepares various schedules as support for the annual IRS 990 and 990T tax reporting
  • Assists in special projects; communicates status of projects
  • Performs other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong technical knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Strong knowledge of internal controls over financial reporting
  • Understanding of business processes
  • Excellent communication skills with all levels of the organization
  • Consistently demonstrates and encourages a commitment to quality
  • Advanced MS Word and Excel software skills
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to identify risks, and use data to prepare accurate financial reports
  • Ability to accomplish results, meet objectives  and effectively prioritize initiatives amid competing priorities within agreed upon timeline
  • Ability to recognize areas of process improvement and assist in implementing new processes and procedures

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Five years of experience in an accounting firm or an accounting position

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters degree in accounting or a closely related field
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Previous experience using Workday as a financial system
