The Researching Engineering, Design and Educational Systems (REDES) team within Cornell University’s Robert Frederick Smith School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) is seeking a highly motivated and talented individual to join our team as a Postdoctoral Associate in Engineering Education. The REDES team works on projects that examine and transform the interconnections, structures, and transition points that are critical to creating inclusive learning and work systems within engineering.
The postdoctoral scholar will collaborate with Professor Alexandra Coso Strong on work in two areas: (1) examining and supporting faculty pursuing educational innovation in engineering and (2) exploring the learning experiences of graduate students in engineering. In addition, the postdoctoral associate will join a diverse and supportive group of discipline-based education researchers across the Cornell University campus.
Responsibilities include:
·Collaborate to define the landscape of educational change and instructional approaches used in graduate engineering education
·Collect and analyze data using quantitative and qualitative research methods, such as surveys, interviews, and observations.
·Contribute to the preparation of research reports, scholarly publications, and/or research proposals.
·Present research findings at conferences and seminars.
·Assist in the supervision and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students involved in the REDES team.
Requirements:
·Ph.D. in Engineering Education, STEM Education, Engineering, or a related field to be completed by start date(negotiable).
·Demonstrated experience in quantitative and/or qualitative research methods.
·Experience with data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
·Excellent oral and written communication skills.
·Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a research team.
Application Procedure:
1. Candidate CV, including publication list and date of Ph.D. graduation, and listing the name of the Ph.D. advisor(s). If not yet graduated, please note the estimated date for graduation. Font size should be no smaller than 11pt.
2. A 1-2 page cover letter that describes the interest in this position, desired goals for the postdoctoral position, how this position will support future career goals, and alignment of the candidate’s values with the founding principle of Cornell written by Ezra Cornell, “I would found an institution where any person can find instruction in any study.”
3. Two letters of recommendation, including one that must be from the candidate’s Ph.D. thesis advisor, which provide detailed assessments of the candidate’s qualifications and potential for innovative, ground-breaking
independent research.
Review of applications will begin November 15th and continue until the position is filled.
