The Biomolecular Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics
group is embedded in both the departments of Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Utrecht University and focuses on the use of mass spectrometry to understand the inner workings of cells. Mass spectrometry enables the identification, quantification and characterisation of proteins and other biomolecules that work together and are involved in cellular processes and in disease. The group houses an array of state-of-the-art mass spectrometers, combined with extensive protein and peptide separation methods, cell culture and molecular biology infrastructure. The group has a world-renowned expertise in the development of mass spectrometers and LC methods for the analysis of the structure and function of protein machineries. As such the group is involved in several national and international projects and programmes with academic researchers, medical institutes as well as instrument manufactures and biotech companies.
The group exist of about 65 members, as staff, support, PhD candidates and researchers. We have a staff of 12 members with a full, or part appointment or special appointment.
