Purpose
The Technical Staff Assistant IV will provide machining and fabrication/manufacturing of prototype components for integration into research hardware and systems. Assists engineers in the design, procurement, assembly, and test of prototype electrical and mechanical equipment in a laboratory and machine shop environment.
Responsibilities
- Performs machining and fabrication of prototype components
- Assists with other tasks and functions associated with the operation of a machine shop/lab environment
- Develops technical drawings of designs for part manufacture and/or procurement
- Assists with assembly and testing of prototype hardware and systems
- Procures components and materials, receives and inspects fabricated parts against drawings and specifications
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Four (4) years of experience operating manual and CNC machine shop tools (mills, lathes, etc).
- Some level of skills and experience associated with the fabrication and assembly of mechanical systems.
- Willingness to work with research engineers and students in a research/educational environment.
- Desire to learn skills listed under preferred qualifications.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Mastercam or equivalent software package.
- Experience in scientific research and operating laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Experience with Solidworks.
Salary Range
$51,000 + depending on qualifications
