The University of Miami/UHealth department of Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a Full-Time Research Support Specialist to work at the UHealth Medical Campus. The Research Support Specialist performs a variety of duties involved in the collection, compilation, and documentation of research data related to the assigned research studies. The incumbent also assists with the implementation of daily study activities and provides statistical support to these activities.

Core Responsibilities

  • Researches, collects, analyzes, and synthesizes data and maintains databases.
  • Conducts quality assurance checks, reports on the status of research activities, and submits monthly activity logs for protocol.
  • Organizes and coordinates community working group meetings for protocol activities.
  • Serves as primary point of contact for community partners and supervises and oversees research data collection at protocol venues in the community.

Department Specific Functions

  • Participate in community events and activities to increase awareness of the project
  • Help design and implement culturally appropriate recruitment strategies
  • Maintains effective lines of communications (phone/emails) with potential and enrolled participants to ensure adherence to study goals and objectives are met.
  • Recruit and enroll participants into the study including obtaining informed consent, conducting interviews and questionnaire completion with research participants according to detailed procedures and guidelines
  • Conducting basic examinations such as height, weight, automated blood pressure readings, and hip waist ratios according to detailed procedures and guidelines
  • Entering data, assisting with the creation and maintenance of databases
  • Sources and recruits study participants by using databases, social media, hospitals, mental health clinics, shelter programs, etc.
  • Prescreens and evaluates candidates for study participation.
  • Visits appropriate referral sources (i.e. hospitals, clinics, etc.) to market clinical studies/trials and conducts face-to-face screenings and assessments to determine eligibility; communicates with family or persons involved in participant’s care.
  • Provides analytical and well-documented recruiting reports to leadership
  • Participating in ongoing UM and sponsor trainings
  • Maintaining all required research certifications
  • Assisting with other research and administrative activities as assigned.

This is a full-time regular position. Flexible hours may be needed to accommodate the needs of the clients – Some evenings and weekends. Local traveling involved.  Travel to national meetings and trainings may also be required.  Candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to final offer of employment being made.

Core Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Bilingual (English and Spanish or Haitian Creole)
  • Able to interact with a variety of audiences.
  • Recruitment, phone scheduling and outreach experience
  • Prior Experience conducting recruitment preferred
  • Strong verbal communication, interviewing, and writing skills in both English and Spanish/Creole.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Compiling data, maintaining confidentiality, and working as a team member.
  • Accurately, and carefully documenting all participant interactions in a timely fashion.
  • Complete service plans and participant evaluations as directed.
  • Attend staff meetings, chart reviews, ongoing trainings and community meetings.
  • Attend weekly supervision with Clinical Research Coordinator
  • Work with the project team for appropriate community resource referrals and coordination.
  • Creativity, flexibility, sound judgment, and ability to take initiative.
  • Commitment to the University’s core values.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Proficiency in computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office)
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
