The lab is seeking a Research Technician II (RT II) to join our team. The main responsibility of this person is to manage mouse colonies and perform a variety of duties related to mouse husbandry, as well as, general molecular/cellular biology work.
WORK PERFORMED
This position will be primarily working with genetically modified and immune-compromised mice to identify pathways required for tumor growth and metastasis. Excellent record keeping and attention to detail are required.
Duties will include:
- Mouse colonies maintenance: planning and setting up breeding cages, genotyping and keeping accurate records.
- Assistance in mouse experiments: measure tumor size and mouse weight; assist in drug administration (gavage, intraperitoneal and subcutanous injections, etc.); perform survival surgeries (ovariectomy); euthanize mice when needed.
- General molecular and cell biology work: quantitative PCR, western blotting, IHC, IF.
- Additional duties may include: prepare culture media, chemicals, reagents and solutions; maintain sufficient inventory of material, supplies and equipment for performance of duties; clean and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Assist with the training of entry-level personnel in the lab.
- Review literature.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Prior experience in animal handling is preferred but not required. This position will require some experience in data management and record keeping, with experience in Excel being important. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Work generally requires a bachelor’s degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.
