The incumbent in this position is responsible for performing duties in support of the daily operation of the Carolinas Cord Blood Bank (CCBB) Processing Laboratory. The individual filling this position will work to ensure proper document completion for cord blood unit batch records, quality control documents, and will perform data entry into an electronic database to ensure the laboratory is in control and in compliance with applicable regulations.  This individual will also be responsible for the ordering and management of laboratory supplies. The incumbent is an integral member of a team of professionals working together to produce the highest quality clinical products for hematopoietic cellular transplantation.

This is a Monday-Friday position.  Shift hours may be subject to change based on CCBB Program needs.

WORK PERFORMED

  • Assist with general administrative activities to include, but not limited to, entry of laboratory data into the electronic database, filing of cord blood unit batch records, printing, review and filing of associated test results, printing of forms and preparation of batch records for review by CCBB staff prior to Medical Director sign-off and Quality Systems release. Review and prepare batch records and quality control documents for offsite and/or long-term storage.  Screen documents for completeness and data entry errors.  Investigate incomplete, inaccurate, or missing documents to ensure accuracy and completeness of data, as necessary.
  • Receive confidential donor packets and newborn screening results into the laboratory while ensuring and maintaining complete confidentiality with regard to the maternal/infant donor pair, as well as results from any tests and procedures, in accordance with CCBB standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain sufficient inventory, plus additional buffer, of laboratory supplies and reagents for manufacturing processes.  Work closely with CCBB Laboratory management and the CCBB Supply Coordinators to create/renew standing orders of critical supplies and place additional orders as needed.  Perform routine checks of inventory to include, but not limited to, verification of expiration dates of applicable products and check of quantity of supplies on hand.
  • Evaluate collected laboratory data and prepare reports as needed with accuracy, completeness, and timeliness. Provide input on trends or problems noted and/or input regarding development of standard operating procedures for the Carolinas Cord Blood Bank, and revision of data collection forms and worksheets.
  • Assist in daily packing and preparation of research-use cord blood unit shipments to identified entities.
  • Work with CCBB Laboratory management and maintain strong relationships with the department manager, members of the CCBB team and other departmental staff.  Attend routine laboratory and departmental meetings.  Participate in routine meetings with management team for progress reports on projects, scheduling, and discussion of any other required items.
  • Ability to read and understand standard operating procedures. Complete assigned training.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including intermediate to advanced experience with Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, and Internet navigation, in both Apple and PC devices.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Education/Training

Work requires communication and analytical skills normally acquired through a 4 year college education.

Experience

Work requires one year of experience in program administration or involving academic, instructional or counseling activities to acquire skills necessary to plan, coordinate and implement a variety of program activities and events.
