We invite applications for a PhD position in the field of Atmospheric Sciences at the Institute of Geography and Oeschger Centre, University of Bern. The project, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, aims to advance the understanding and prediction of extreme storms and their associated impacts in Europe and the North Atlantic on sub-seasonal to seasonal timescales-spanning from two weeks to two months. The goal of the PhD project is to provide valuable insights on the predictability of extreme storm impacts in present and future climate. The candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Hilla Afargan-Gerstman.
- MSc in atmospheric sciences, climate science, environmental science, physics, applied mathematics, or a related field.
- Some experience with programming (e.g., Python) is an advantage
The position offers continued education in the Climate Sciences graduate school, and a salary according to the Swiss National Science Foundation regulations.
