About the vacancy:
The University of the West of England has a leading profile in planning research. The Centre for Sustainable Planning and Environment is appointing a Research Fellow with a background in green infrastructure and healthy places to support these activities.
This role is specifically targeted at addressing the challenge of creating more healthy, climate resilient and equitable places through both existing research activities and supporting grant applications. Part of the role is working in collaboration with the Centre for Public Health and Wellbeing on the Natural Environment Research Council-funded GP4Streets project.
The GP4Streets project will create tailored do-it-yourself (DIY) green blue grey infrastructure (GBGI) solutions as a “green prescription” for urban streets, allowing communities to adapt to their specific environmental challenges posed by a changing climate.

About you
You will be required to support existing research projects in the Centre as well as developing new projects to enhance SPE research under the themes of healthy places, green infrastructure and climate adaptation.
You will carry out the tasks aligned with GP4Streets case studies in Surrey and the West of England, mapping existing and planned GBGI interventions and examining their scale, governance and socio-economic characteristics of neighbourhoods. They will also analyse inequalities in the GBGI provision and identify reasons for disparities.
You will understand how to conduct quantitative research and have experience of spatial analysis using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and statistical software. You will also have experience of publishing research findings in academic publications and collaborating on applications for external funding for research.
You will report to Danni Sinnett, Centre Director, and will be expected to interface with researchers in the Centres, School and wider College.
This will be a fixed term 12-month post with potential to extend depending on future research funding.

This is a full time, fixed-term post for 12 months and is available on a job share basis for applicants wishing to work part time.
