The newly established group “Land-Atmosphere Interactions” at the Institute of Earth System Science and Remote Sensing investigates the function of the biosphere in controlling the exchange of carbon, water and energy between the atmosphere and the land surface, as well as the climate-biosphere feedbacks resulting from these interactions. Specific topics include the links between climate change, variability and extremes, as well as vegetation dynamics, ecosystem disturbances and resilience, and impacts of land use and
management. We are looking for a creative and motivated PhD student working on land-atmosphere interactions , remote sensing, biodiversity and/or links with society .

TASKS
- own scientific qualification (doctorate)
- Developing your own research in the desired field in collaboration with the members of the team; we strive for creativity and excellence in research
- Supporting the integration of the new group into the larger Leipzig research area through participation in interdisciplinary collaboration with other groups at the university and/or with external partners
WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Completed university degree (e.g. Master’s degree) in meteorology, earth system science, physical geography or a comparable field
- Basic knowledge of the interactions between land and atmosphere
- Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, Julia or R
- Experience in the analysis of remote sensing data and/or vegetation modeling
- Ability to work independently and in cooperation with the group
- Willingness to work in a highly interdisciplinary and international environment
- previous research experience (e.g. as a research assistant, conference presentations) is an advantage
- excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken
