The position is offered within the Mathematical Physics group, led by Prof. Dr. Dejan Gajic, and is part of the research project “The Mathematical Analysis of Extremal Black Holes and Gravitational Radiation”, funded by a 2023 ERC Starting Grant. The doctoral project is located at the interface between mathematics and theoretical physics and aims to address current research questions related to the dynamic aspects of black holes using methods from the field of hyperbolic partial differential equations.

The selected candidate will also be part of the International Max Planck Research School at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences in Leipzig, where he/she will have the opportunity to engage in extensive exchanges across different areas of mathematics and mathematical physics.

TASKS

  • Research in the field of mathematical general relativity and hyperbolic partial differential equations
  • Participation in research seminars and participation in shaping the academic culture of the Mathematical Physics Group
  • Participation in international workshops, conferences and events
  • own scientific further qualification (doctorate)

WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Completed university degree (e.g. Master of Science or equivalent) in mathematics or theoretical physics or a related field
  • demonstrable commitment in the field of mathematical general relativity or hyperbolic partial differential equations, for example through previous research projects or active participation in corresponding advanced courses
  • excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team and independently
