Associate Staff Scientist, is available in Dr. Mohammad Rahman’s lab at UAMS to study gene expression regulation in cancer and genetic disorders and develop RNA-based targeted therapies. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to diverse research projects in a collaborative environment, focusing on transcription, RNA splicing, mRNA decay, RNA structures, and protein interactions.

Qualifications:

  • PhD Degree in Biomedical Sciences or related. Postdoctoral or equivalent work experience 5+ years of laboratory experience in RNA splicing, transcriptional regulation, proteomics, RNA secondary structure, and computational analysis on molecular target screening using next generation sequencing
  • RNA-sequencing, RT-PCR, RT-qPCR, RNA-pulldown, MS2-mediated artificial tethering, knockdown using siRNA/ShRNA/CRISPR, cDNA overexpression, protein-protein interaction and quantitative mass spectrometry, antisense pharmacology, developing transgenic cell line for gene knock-out using CRISPR or other technologies or knock-in mutant gene, microscopic imaging, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in protein expression and purification using other cell hosts (mammalian, yeast, insect cell).
  • RNA secondary structure analysis and transcriptional regulation using luciferase reporter assay.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on RNA biology and gene expression in cancer and genetic diseases.
  • Performs target screening (e.g., RNA-sequencing), validation (e.g., RT-PCR/RT-qPCR), mechanistic studies (e.g., RNA-pulldown, CRISPR, cDNA overexpression), and protein interaction analysis.
  • Utilizes advanced techniques like quantitative mass spectrometry and antisense pharmacology.
  • Trains students, postdocs, and staff in lab techniques.
  • Develops new research projects and ensure efficient lab operations with adherence to best practices.
