The Biomedicum flow cytometry core facility (BFC) is under the management of The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet, conducting research and teaching within immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. MTC has about 40 research groups and our key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, national and international collaborations.
Flow cytometry is a central methodology within the life sciences. The BFC is a shared resource laboratory with a wide range of services, supporting cutting edge research in the Stockholm area. The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art cell sorters and analysis instruments. Located in the Biomedicum building, the BFC offers cell sorting in a BSL2 environment and currently serves over 200 users.
Your mission
The BFC offers training, application support for panel and experiment design, assisted analysis and cell sorting. As a research technician, you will work in the facility team and aid in the daily routines for both instrument maintenance and biosafety, and perform simple and advanced cell sorting and analysis as well as instrument troubleshooting. Training new users is a major service offered at the BFC, and you will assist in organizing training sessions, both theoretical and hands-on training. The facility offers an excellent opportunity to develop a career in flow cytometry via interaction with the BFC staff and researchers from KI as well as customers from industry.
Your profile
Requirements for the position:
- A PhD in Biomedicine, Molecular Biology, Immunology or a related discipline, alternatively a university degree (Bachelor or Master) coupled with years of research experience in one of these disciplines
- A minimum of one year experience of multi-color flow cytometry and cell sorting
- You are highly motivated, well organized and service oriented with extensive experience in flow cytometry, both analysis and sorting
- You are eager to learn new instrumentation, techniques and analysis software
- Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English
Meritorious for the position:
- Demonstrated independent cell sorting experience on BD Aria and/or CytoFLEX SRT platform, including basic technical troubleshooting
- Previous knowledge and hands-on experience in spectral flow cytometry and/or imaging flow cytometry
- Previous work and management experience of BSL-2 lab
- Experience of customer service and strong pedagogic and interpersonal skills
- Ability to organize, plan and document your work
