An opportunity for a Development Support Technician has arisen in the Department of Bioengineering. The Au Lab is seeking an individual with experience conducting research with microfluidics for cancer immunotherapy to conduct research and development efforts in the research labs of the Department of Bioengineering in Imperial College’s South Kensington campus.

 

What you would be doing

The Au Lab is seeking a Development Support Technician to advance the commercialisation potential of microfluidics and cancer immunotherapy within the research labs of the Department of Bioengineering in Imperial College’s South Kensington campus. This post is funded by the MRC early-stage development grant aimed at advancing the technology readiness level of our microfluidic device developed in our laboratory. To accomplish this, the post holder will support development activities which will generate key data, processes, workflows and templates for later commercialisation efforts.

 

What we are looking for

To conduct, under the guidance and direction of the principal investigator, experiments within the Au Lab relevant to microfluidics and cancer:

  • Culture and maintain cancer cell lines and primary cancer cell lines in a sterile manner
  • Stain and label cancer cells using molecular dyes
  • Fabricate polydimethylsiloxane microfluidic devices for use in experiments
  • Conduct experiments using cancer cells within fabricated microfluidic devices
  • Use inverted fluorescent microscopy to image and record experimental results
  • Prepare summary reports of experimental results for the laboratory
  • Assist the principal investigator in data analysis, interpretation of results and manuscript preparation as required

Essential requirements

  • Apprenticeship with relevant skills or relevant experience in this area/ orAn undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in a relevant life science or engineering degree
  • Experience in a research laboratory environment using microfluidics for cancer immunotherapy research.
  • Knowledge of the scientific method
  • Knowledge of basic research methods and statistical procedures
  • Knowledge of general laboratory practice, techniques and instrumentation
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to liaise and respond appropriately to constructive feedback.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to deal with a wide range of people
  • Excellent written communication skills and the ability to write clearly and succinctly for publication
  • Willingness to travel both within the United Kingdom and abroad to work with academic collaborators & attend conferences
