Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching within immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. MTC has about 40 research groups and our key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, national and international collaborations.

Your mission

The Sorobetea lab is a newly established research group looking for an ambitious research assistant. The group studies how granulomas protect the body against bacterial infection. This knowledge may enable new therapies against harmful microbes that are resistant to antibiotics, as well as alleviate granulomatous diseases.

You will study how the immune system combats infection with the bacterium Yersinia. Among other things, you will investigate how lymphocytes sterilize intestinal granulomas using a mouse model. These experiments will be complemented by in vitro techniques where the mechanisms involved can be studied in depth.

Your profile

This position is open to those who have obtained a master/undergraduate degree in molecular biology or a related field. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest by the time the recruitment decision is made. Applicants who have not obtained the degree by the application deadline may also apply, provided that all requirements for completion are fulfilled before the appointment date. This must be documented by the main supervisor, director of studies or equivalent. Previous experience in immunological studies is an advantage, and expertise in microbiology or disease models is desirable.
