Do you have a passion for climate change and marine conservation issues? Are you a proficient R-coder? Do you have a background in applied mathematics and statistics? Do you want to further your career in a leading marine ecological modelling team?

You will join the marine modelling group in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics to work across several related multipartner.

Horizon Europe and UKRI projects on modelling the ecosystem effects of climate change and human activities, especially fishing, in regions around the Atlantic Ocean. These projects are applying the StrathE2E marine ecosystem model (https://outreach.mathstat.strath.ac.uk/apps/StrathE2EApp/) to southern and northern hemisphere shelf seas (South Africa, Brazil, Celtic Sea, North Sea), oceanic islands such as the Azores, and sub-polar areas such as the Norwegian Sea.

In this role you will undertake literature searches to find information needed for parameterising the models. You will need extensive coding skills in R to extract records from big-data outputs of earth-system models of the Atlantic Ocean, and to conduct optimization and sensitivity analyses on the models and carry out climate and ecosystem management scenario experiments. You will need to be proficient at writing up results for publications and presenting at project meetings, and working with widely dispersed project partners.

You will have obtained a PhD in a quantitative field of environmental or preferably marine science with a background in applied mathematics or statistics, be able to demonstrate coding skills in R, and have a strong commitment to publishing scientific results.
