The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Dell Medical School is looking for a Research Associate I. This position is temporary and ends December 30, 2025. It can be renewed based on funding availability, work performance, and progress toward goals. This position requires occasional weekend and after-hours work.

Purpose

To assist interdisciplinary research and clinical teams in the Bipolar Disorder Center / Almeida lab at Dell Medical School, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin. This role will aid in many aspects of the research process involving the bipolar and major depressive populations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, collect, conduct, and analyze research projects, including psychological measures using standard interviews (self-report and/or clinician-based) and neuroimaging measures as part of a team of faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate assistants.
  • Provide exceptional support to peers and research participants via phone, email, and chat.
  • Assist with data entry and database management.
  • Review medical records and conduct screenings for study recruitment. Execute data collection procedures and assessments and assist with subject recruitment.
  • Work with a multidisciplinary research and clinical team to address complex issues and improve research quality. Maintain positive relationships with other departments.
  • Assist with IRB submission & management.
  • Help with subject management, scheduling and reimbursement.
  • Assist with manuscripts and publications (authorship will depend on the candidate’s initiative).
  • Contribute to creating and updating support documentation and FAQs.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with some research experience in psychiatry, psychology, public health, social work, counseling, or related discipline. Experience with obtaining neuroimaging measures (MRI, EEG, etc). Compassionate with a professional demeanor with tact and respect at all times. Ability to address individuals and information with a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality in various delicate, formal, or urgent situations. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Outstanding organizational and time management skills. Demonstrated critical thinking skills and excellent attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to work well with a broad group of faculty, staff, and students, including the willingness and ability to train and oversee undergraduate and graduate students. Must be comfortable interacting in an interdisciplinary setting and interacting with people living with serious mental illness. Strong computer skills with a variety of programs. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with data entry, designing, and/or managing REDCap database. Experience with quantitative and/or qualitative data collection and analysis. Phlebotomy, biospecimen processing, and/or ECG experience. Experience communicating with/submitting to institutional review boards (IRBs).

Salary Range

$40,000+ depending on qualifications
