We are seeking a full-time (100 %) Project Researcher or part-time (50 %) Senior Researcher to join FinnGen project at the Department of Clinical Medicine. The position is fixed term from 1 April 2025 to 14 August 2027. The employment will begin on 1 April 2025 or earlier as agreed.
Job description
FinnGen research project aims to make breakthroughs in disease prevention and diagnostics. The project takes over 500,000 Finns on a journey of discovery into genomic data and future health innovations. The project is based on collaboration between universities, hospital districts, Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), Finnish Red Cross Blood Service, biobanks, Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM), and the pharmaceutical industry. FinnGen study utilises biological samples and genome data collected by Finnish biobanks. The collected information is combined with digital health care data from national health registries.
Duties of project researcher or senior researcher include:
- Promoting the FinnGen research project in the region and introducing the project to local researchers, especially clinicians.
- Supporting researchers in planning analyses.
- Supporting researchers in the practicalities related to joining the FinnGen research community.
- Supporting researches in doing analyses in FinnGen Sandbox.
- Participating in the FinnGen network for local experts.
- Actively tailoring the support to fit the needs of the local research community together with the FinnGen core staff.
- Conducting statistical analyses in the FinnGen sandbox.

You are suitable for the Project Researcher position if you have a higher university degree in a relevant field (e.g., statistics, genetics, health sciences, public health science, bioinformatics, or mathematical/natural sciences) or if you are expected to graduate before the start of the employment. We expect you to have good oral and written proficiency in English, ability to work independently, collaboration skills, and motivation to work in a multidisciplinary environment. In addition, experience in statistical programming (especially R) is expected. Proficiency in Finnish, previous scientific experience in genetics, and relevant work experience are considered an advantage.

Salary and trial period
The salary is determined in accordance with university salary system for research and teaching staff.
The salary of Project Researcher is on levels 2–4. In addition, a performance-based salary component will be paid. Depending on previous experience and competence, the salary is typically 2448,41–3302,58 euros per month at the start of employment.
The salary of Senior Researcher is on levels 4–6. In addition, a performance-based salary component will be paid. Depending on previous experience and competence, the salary is typically 3727,72–4459,45 euros per month at the start of employment.
Salary is negotiated before drafting the employment contract. The position has a trial period of six (6) months.
