The Department of Linguistics and Philology conducts research and education in linguistics and text studies with a focus on Asian languages and cultures, European classical languages, linguistics and computational linguistics. Education is offered at undergraduate, advanced and doctoral levels. The department has around eighty employees, who together with students and partners create an international and intellectually vibrant environment.
Job duties
The doctoral studies are conducted within the framework of one of the department’s postgraduate subjects on the theme of linguistic diversity. The study of linguistic, textual and literary diversity is of profound scientific importance and provides critical insights into human language, cognition and culture. It is important not only for learning and preserving languages but also for understanding and respecting the different ways in which people perceive and interact with the world. At the Faculty of Languages, we want to promote research at the intersection of linguistic, social and cultural practices. We welcome projects that point towards innovative research in linguistics, philology and literary studies, especially those that transcend linguistic boundaries and accommodate interdisciplinary approaches.

The department’s general study plans: Computational Linguistics , Greek and Greek with a focus on Byzantium, Indology and Indology with a focus on comparative Indo-European linguistics , Iranian languages , Latin , Linguistics , Semitic languages and Semitic languages with a focus on Assyriology , Sinology , Turkic languages .
Qualification requirements
- Eligible for postgraduate education is someone who has completed an advanced level degree in a linguistics subject or equivalent that provides a good foundation for postgraduate education within the relevant postgraduate education subject.
- completed at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits at advanced level including an independent project of at least 15 credits, or
- in some other documented way acquired essentially equivalent knowledge
Desirable otherwise
Applicants should have solid expertise in the traditional linguistic or philological methods that are relevant to the proposed research field and be up-to-date with digital tools and research methods.

- A plan for the dissertation project of no more than three pages.
