About the position
Position as PhD Research Fellow in in Cell Biology available at the Department of Biosciences, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Oslo.
Starting date no later than 01.10.2025.
The fellowship period is 3 years.
A fourth year may be considered with a workload of 25 % that may consist of teaching, supervision duties, and/or research assistance. This is dependent upon the qualification of the applicant and the current needs of the department.
No one can be appointed for more than one PhD Research Fellowship period at the University of Oslo.
Job description
The candidate for this position will work on a project funded by the Norwegian Research Council entitled: ”Decoding the novel role of the endoplasmic reticulum in mechanotransduction”. This is a collaborative project between the groups of Prof. Cinzia Progida, and Ass. Prof. Jonas Paulsen. The goal of this project is to identify how changes of the physical extracellular environment affect intracellular compartments and organelle dynamics, and to further characterize how this influences gene expression. The project will be conducted in collaboration with international groups and involves potential research stay abroad for the Research Fellow. The project will make use of cutting-edge technology comprising CRISPR/Cas9 knock-in and knock-out, state-of-the-art imaging techniques including super-resolution microscopy combined with biophysical assays to study the effect of mechanical cues on intracellular transport and organelle dynamics.

The Department of Biosciences hosts the Eurobioimaging Advanced imaging node NorMIC Oslo with access to a wide range of the latest imaging equipment and methods, an EM-lab, the Norwegian Sequencing Centre (NSC) and Proteomics services.
Qualification requirements

Required qualifications:
- Master’s degree or equivalent in cell or molecular biology
- Foreign completed degrees (M.Sc.-level) must correspond to a minimum of four years in the Norwegian educational system
- Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture
- Practical experience with different molecular and cell biology methods
- Previous experience with confocal microscopy
The following is considered an advantage:
- Prior experience with live confocal imaging, super-resolution microscopy and image analysis will be considered a strong advantage
- Knowledge from the relevant field of research
Language requirements:
- Fluent oral and written communication skills in English
