Job Overview
This is a full-time, 9-months per year (non-tenure track) position. The workload is 90% teaching and 10% service commitments. The typical Fashion Design workload is 8 (3 credits) courses across two semesters. We value faculty who can bring a fresh perspective to the ever-changing landscape of Fashion Design as the opportunities for Fashion Designers expand.
The Fashion Design Program is recognized as a highly rated program nationally and internationally. Our nationally ranked Bachelor of Science in Fashion Design major provides a platform for discovery, experimentation, and specialization by way of strong foundational skills, experiential learning, user-centered approaches, craft and conceptual development, hands-on prototyping, and problem-solving culture. Fashion Design students develop skills, gain knowledge, and grow experience through a sequential curriculum of studio, theory, and methods courses, which diversify based on their interests and expertise halfway through the five-year program. In addition, they are exposed to hands-on professional practice in the field via working in the field nationally and internationally on co-op program.
The Fashion Design curriculum covers all facets of apparel design, technical design, textiles, design research, fashion illustration, product development, and trend forecasting. Students are prepared for careers in fashion design, including apparel design, technical design, CAD design, product development, and trend forecasting. Faculty in the program have opportunities to teach in the Master of Design Program, and in cross-disciplinary teams within the College.
Essential Functions
- Teach primarily undergraduate level courses and may teach at the graduate level in fashion design. May teach in cross-disciplinary teams within the College.
- Provide service to various School, College and/or University committees such as curriculum committees, and mentor students.
Minimum Requirements
Prior to the effective date of the appointment, all of the following:
- Master’s degree in Fashion Design or a related field
- One academic year of teaching experience post-qualifying degree at the university level in Fashion Design or related field
