The University of Hull’s mission is to advance education, scholarship, knowledge, and understanding by teaching and research, for the benefit of individuals and society at large. Founded in 1927 as University College Hull, the institution initially prepared students for external degrees awarded by the University of London. It received its Royal Charter in 1954, granting it independent university status as the University of Hull. This made it the third university in Yorkshire and the fourteenth in England at the time.
