About the role
General practitioners who have gained their CCT are invited to apply for the post of Principal Teaching Fellow in Primary Care Digital Health and Education (maternity cover) within the multi-award winning Undergraduate Primary Care Education team (UPCE), one of the UK’s largest teams of its kind with an exemplary national reputation for curricular innovation in the Department of Primary Care and Public Health, within the School of Public Health (SPH) in the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London. Academic General Practice is a major contributor to teaching within the Faculty of Medicine. Undergraduate Primary Care Education works with over 500 GPs to deliver teaching across multiple clinical placements in 5 of the 6 years of the MBBS programme at Imperial College London.
What you would be doing
- Work closely with UPCE and ICSM to contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of primary care related placements and educational innovations, with a focus on digital health and medical education.
- Keep abreast of the wider literature base, policies and advances relating to digital health and work within the UPCE team to ensure these inform the primary care courses across all phases of the Imperial College School of Medicine (ICSM) curriculum.
- Teach and facilitate where appropriate on primary care courses managed by UPCE. These include Phase 1a and b Patients, Communities and Healthcare (PCH), Phase 1c Medicine in the Community Attachment (MICA), Phase 3 General Practice and Primary Health Care (GPPHC), Phase 3 General Practice Student Assistantship (GPSA) and Specialty Choice Placements (SCPs).
- Work with UPCE and ICSM to contribute to the development and implementation of primary care-focussed student and faculty facing digital materials.
- Provide practice-based teaching to students where appropriate.
- Contribute to developing and implementing medical student assessments with a primary care focus, including constructing questions, developing online workplace-based assessments, performing clinical assessments, and examinations.
- Contribute to innovative UPCE and ICSM educational projects relating to digital health and education.
- Engage in faculty development in digital health and the use of digital tools in education.
- Foster relationships with key stakeholders in digital health and medical education within SPH, ICSM, Imperial and externally where appropriate.
- Contribute to peer support and reflective learning including peer to peer observation.
- Provide reports on teaching, learning and assessment activities as required.
What we are looking for
- Certificate of Completion of Training in General Practice or equivalent.
- Full registration with the General Medical Council
- Working clinically as a GP within an NHS setting
- Evidence of teaching experience
- Interest undergraduate medical education and a commitment to general practice as a focus and setting for undergraduate learning
- Knowledge and demonstrable experience of advances in digital health and education
- Sound understanding of the organisation of general practice and current developments in primary care, digital health and education.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, academics, clinicians, administrative staff and external stakeholders
