This position belongs to the organizational unit Structural Materials on Campus Ghent (Elooi-lab). The unit is part of the Department of Materials Engineering (www.mtm.kuleuven.be).
At the Faculty of Industrial Engineering of KU Leuven, Ghent campus, a full-time position is vacant as assisting academic staff in the Bachelor/Master Electromechanics. This course belongs to the Science and Technology Group. The vacancy is located in the broad domain of the engineering disciplines of materials engineering/project work/mechanical engineering and will start in September/October 2024. The appointment period is for 2 years, subsequently extendable.
Project
The teaching assignment includes providing education in the bachelor’s and master’s degree in industrial engineering (electromechanics). These teaching tasks include:

  • Materials science labs
  • Labs CAD (Solidworks)
  • Supervising project work that consists of the design of mechanical structures and machines
  • Supervision of master’s theses.

The PhD concerns the mechanism of hydrogen embrittlement and its impact on fretting fatigue in additively manufactured materials. This research focuses on understanding the mechanism of hydrogen embrittlement and its impact on fretting fatigue in additively manufactured materials. Hydrogen embrittlement reduces the strength and ductility of a material through hydrogen absorption, which can lead to fracture. By studying these processes in additively manufactured materials, research can help improve the structural integrity and reliability of these components.

Profile

  • Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in engineering technology or in engineering sciences, specialisation electromechanics or mechanical engineering or materials science.
  • Knowledge of equipment for materials testing is an added value.
  • Candidates must familiarize themselves with the CAD software Solidworks.
  • Candidates are expected to be sufficiently motivated and show an interest in both education and research so that they can contribute positively to the quality of the department.
  • Excellent knowledge of Dutch and knowledge of English is a requirement for the teaching assignment.

  • The appointment period is for 2 years in scale 43.
  • For each course, training or an introductory period is provided to acquire the necessary knowledge.
  • You will enter a fascinating and versatile environment that guides young people to broad technical knowledge.
