Location – This role is in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.

Working for the Department of Agricultural, Food and Nutritional Science (AFNS)
The Department of Agricultural, Food and Nutritional Science (AFNS) at the University of Alberta, is a vibrant, collegial, and unique department, the first of its kind in North America. AFNS has a mission of serving the community through excellence in teaching and research in efficient and sustainable agricultural production, value added processing, food safety and human health to promote the health and quality of life. AFNS administers a budget of about $ 38 million, including approximately $24 million in research and trust funds.
The department includes 65 academic staff, over 100 Research Associates, Postdoctoral Fellows, Adjunct Professors, visiting scientists, and 350 administrative, technical, and support staff. There are approximately 350 graduate students, and over 900 undergraduate students enrolled in the BSc in Agriculture, Animal Health, Nutrition & Food Science degree programs, administered at the Faculty level.
Position
The Department of Agricultural, Food and Nutritional Science invites applications for a 9-month Academic Teaching Staff position. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching 6 courses with a term of August 1, 2025 to April 30, 2026.
Duties
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching of Animal Science courses including but not limited to:
- AN SC 100 – Introduction to Animal Health Science
- AN SC 101 – Principles of Animal Agriculture
- AN SC 260 – Fundamentals of Animal Nutrition
- AN SC 376 – Animal Welfare
- AN SC 499 – Integrative Project in Animal Health or Animal Science
- AFNS 601 – Animal Science Seminar

Qualifications
- Minimum of a PhD degree in an Animal Science discipline or equivalent, or a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree.
- Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience, especially teaching animal science or animal health courses.
- Experience with capstone courses, scientific presentations, practical laboratories, animal handling training requirements (e.g. CCAC), working with various livestock species, familiarity with the livestock industry in Alberta, and research-oriented projects is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to employ varied teaching strategies and approaches in classroom and barn settings, experience with web-based Learning Management Systems (e.g. Moodle, eClass, Canvas) and experience with differential teaching formats including in-classroom, remote learning, online learning, and hybrid teaching is considered an asset.
