Position Summary

The Center for Integrative Studies in the Arts & Humanities (CISAH) at Michigan State University seeks to fill up to three one-year, fixed-term teaching positions with the possibility of renewal at the rank of instructor or Assistant Professor. CISAH faculty are responsible for designing and delivering innovative courses in MSU’s Integrative Arts and Humanities (IAH) curriculum, which is required of all undergraduate students and aims to demonstrate the essential role that the arts and humanities play in the lives of all students, regardless of major.

These positions will be academic year (nine month) positions beginning August 16, 2025, teaching three 4-credit general education courses per semester in Fall 2025 and Spring 2026.

Duties:

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate general education courses on contemporary topics in the arts and humanities offered by the Center for Integrative Studies in the Arts & Humanities. We are especially interested in teaching expertise in:

  1. Areas that enhance global learning in IAH, including Latin America, Africa, Asia and Pacific Islands, Middle East/West Asia/North Africa
  2. Inter- or multidisciplinary approaches to creative and humanistic inquiry, especially grounded in Indigenous studies, ethnic studies, philosophy, religious studies, or music
  1. Intersections of the arts and humanities with fields such as generative AI, technology, health, ethics, the environment, or other topics that bridge a wide variety of disciplines

Required Degree

Doctorate -Humanities, Arts, or Related Field

Minimum Requirements

  • MA in a humanities, arts, or related field for Instructor rank
  • PhD in a humanities, arts, or related field for Assistant Professor rank
  • Two years of experience in college-level teaching in the arts or humanities

Desired Qualifications

  • MFA or PhD in a humanities, arts, or related field
  • Online and/or hybrid course design and teaching experience
