Do you want a varied position with a lot of responsibility and impact within an inspiring environment?

Come work with us!

For the Faculty of Science, Mathematics and Computer Science (FNWI) we are looking for a business controller. The FNWI is located at Amsterdam Science Park (ASP) and is surrounded by knowledge institutes and knowledge-intensive spin-off companies. The ASP is a hub of leading education, high-quality research and knowledge-intensive companies.

The Finance & Control department has a team of five enthusiastic colleagues and within this position you will find a nice mix of challenge, variety, freedom and space (for self-development) and a good work-life balance!

Your role

As a business controller, you advise and support the research institutes in particular. You are a true sparring partner and independent advisor for financial issues, can make connections and deal with different interests. You are a team player and work closely with the involved institute managers of the research institutes and various other support departments, such as: human resources, project control and administrative affairs.

You contribute to the ongoing financial processes in the department and monitor the financial situation of the various components and areas of attention that have been assigned to you. You can easily switch between main lines and detailed information and are able to generate adequate reports.

You are involved in the development and quality of management information and in process improvements in the field of finance, risk management and the administrative organization to optimize the planning and control cycle. Furthermore, you have the knowledge to contribute to the development of models and reports to further strengthen the financial management.

What are you going to do?

You will mainly focus on the following activities:

  • You make the connection between finances and the primary process at the FNWI research institutes and provide them with ‘to-the-point’ advice;
  • Testing and co-drafting budgets, quarterly reports with adjustments to forecasts and various (ad-hoc) analyses. You are able to substantiate your advice and analyses with financial management information and to convey this to various target groups;
  • Drawing up and testing business cases and investment issues;
  • Contribute to the management and (further) development of components of the planning & control cycle;
  • Translating financial and non-financial data into key information for management decision-making and the further development of the instrumentation.
  • Together with your colleagues you are responsible for the joint output of the department and you contribute to the further development and output of the team.

Your profile

You are a driven financial professional with an independent, proactive attitude. You like to collaborate with colleagues, but you can also work independently and are a ‘go-getter’. You are analytically strong, organisationally sensitive and have problem-solving skills.

In addition you have:

  • a completed academic education in the field of business economics and/or business administration;
  • experience in a similar position;
  • good command of the Dutch and English language (both spoken and written);

What do we offer you?

We offer a 32-hour employment contract for a period of one year with a trial period of two months. If the candidate proves to be suitable, the temporary contract will be converted into a permanent employment contract. The UFO profile Controller 3/4 applies.

The salary, depending on relevant work experience at the start of the employment, is € 4,332 to € 6,737 (scale 11-12) gross per month based on full-time employment (38 hours per week). A starting scale may apply. This excludes 8% holiday and 8.3% end-of-year bonus. The collective labor agreement for Universities of the Netherlands applies. Curious about our extensive package of secondary employment conditions? You can read more about it here .

What else do we offer you?

  • a challenging position with varied tasks and plenty of room for personal development;
  • a position where personal initiative and input are highly valued;
  • an enthusiastic and warm team that is open to new colleagues;
  • an inspiring academic and international environment at the Science Park.
