The advertised position is part of the DFG funded project “Taking a Stand or Feigning Responsibility? Sociopolitical Positioning of Companies” (Dr. Marc Jungblut, in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Thomas Koch, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz) at the Department of Media & Communication at LMU.
The project examines sociopolitical statements made by German DAX companies and the journalistic reporting on them. In the part of the project that is based at LMU, automated content analyses will be used to systematically analyze the topics and characteristics of sociopolitical statements (e. g., ambiguity or personalization) in corporate communication as well as key features of news coverage on the subject (e. g., motivations attributed to companies).

Your tasks and responsibilities:
- Participate in the further conceptual and organizational planning of the project.
- Joint and independent data collection, as well as analysis of the data using R and/ or Python.
- Joint and independent preparation of research findings from the project for conference presentations and publications.
- Pursuit of personal academic qualification (Ph. D.): Development of an individual concept for a dissertation preferably related to the subject matter of the project; working on the doctoral project.
- Administrative tasks within the scope of the project.
Your qualifications:
We are looking for a candidate with interest and expertise in strategic communication, particularly in the areas of Public Relations or Corporate Social Responsibility.
Applicants should also have experience in (quantitative or automated) content analysis, for example, gained through methodology seminars or BA/ MA thesis. Additionally, candidates should have prior knowledge in Computational Social Science (using R and/ or Python) and basic knowledge of web scraping.
Basic knowledge in quantitative methods of empirical social research is also advantageous. Candidates should be familiar with the fundamental techniques used in the analysis of social science data.
Applicants should have a good command of both German and English languages and possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
Applicants should hold a master’s degree or equivalent qualification or be Ph.D. candidates in the field of communication studies or related disciplines (social sciences, (media/ social) psychology, sociology, etc.).
