The National Center for Women’s Peace (NCK) at Uppsala University works on behalf of the government to increase knowledge at the national level about men’s violence against women, honor-related violence and oppression, and violence in same-sex relationships. We are now recruiting a doctoral student who is interested in conducting research within NCK’s areas of activity with connections to the following projects:
About the project:
NCK has recently been commissioned by the government to prepare for the implementation of a new national scoping study with the aim of investigating the population’s exposure to violence. The project is expected to last at least three years and to some extent be a continuation of NCK’s previous scoping study ” Violence and Health “.
Job duties
As a doctoral student in the project, you will work with the project group on methods, collection of material and analysis for the scoping study that NCK will conduct.
The doctoral program covers four years of full-time studies. Other duties at the department related to education and administrative work may occur (max. 20%), which extends the employment by a corresponding amount of time.
Qualification requirements
Those who are eligible for doctoral level education are those who have:
- completed an advanced degree in social sciences or medicine, or
- completed at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits at advanced level including an independent project of at least 15 credits, or
- have acquired essentially equivalent knowledge in some other way.
In addition to the formal requirements, we envision that the doctoral student will have:
- research interest in the area of gender-related violence and interest in population studies
- good ability to work independently as well as demonstrated ability for collaboration and interaction both within science and with the surrounding society
- Good written and oral skills in Swedish are a requirement.
Desirable/meritorious in other respects
- completed courses in epidemiology or survey method
- training in or work with men’s violence against women, violence in intimate relationships or honor-related violence and oppression
- completed courses or with experience of working in quantitative research methods
Great importance will be placed on personal suitability when it comes to who is deemed to have the best conditions to develop and implement the planned project.

- A brief personal letter in which you describe (1) previous research experience and (2) why you are interested in doctoral education.
