Project description

Third-cycle subject: History of Science, Technology and Environment

The Division of the History of Science, Technology and the Environment is recruiting a doctoral student for a research project on the environmental history of Stockholm during the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. This project will be carried out as a part of the KTH Environmental Humanities Laboratory (EHL).

This project will ask what made (and makes) a green and sustainable city, and for which human and more-than-human communities, in Stockholm and beyond? This research will entail a critical examination of the social, cultural, and political debates, discussions and decisions that have shaped various aspects of the relationship between the city’s human and more-than-human communities over the past century. Although the focus of this project is historical, interdisciplinary conceptual frameworks and approaches from the environmental humanities, environmental justice studies, political ecology and similar fields will also be applicable.

Supervision: Robert Gioielli is proposed to supervise the doctoral student. Decisions are made on admission
