Are you looking for a job in which you inspire and guide students towards a period of studying abroad? And are you able to work calmly and carefully in a dynamic team where many things need to be arranged at the same time? Then this might be your new job.
Become the link between our students and international partner institutions
Internationalisation is an important core value of the education of our faculty. Discovering another culture and customs, stepping out of your comfort zone, and building an international network are skills that are of great value for the rest of your (study) career. We therefore encourage our students to study abroad for a period at one of our partner institutions. Conversely, this means that we also welcome students from these partner institutions to our programmes. The Exchange Office, part of the Education Service Centre, is in direct contact with these students and partner institutions from all corners of the world. In this position, you will be at the heart of the educational organisation. You will work together with various departments within the faculty and the UvA, such as the Economics & Business Career Office, the Global Exchange Office, and the education desk. Due to the departure of a team member, we are looking for a colleague at the Exchange Office.
This is what you will do
The Exchange Office is responsible for the following three main processes:
- Providing information about the possibilities of studying abroad.
- guiding outgoing and incoming students through their application and nomination process
maintaining contact with our partner institutions
In addition, you play an important role in optimizing these processes and the provision of information to students. Finally, you support the development of new forms of short-term exchange, such as Summer Schools or Blended Exchange (partly online, partly on-campus education). You do this in collaboration with your colleagues both within your own team and other Uva Exchange Offices.
Tasks and responsibilities:
- You will inform our students about the possibilities of studying abroad by email, telephone and during the walk-in consultation hours, but also for the group through presentations at information meetings;
- you process and nominate applications from our students for placement at one of our partner institutions;
- you check files of incoming Exchange students and assess their admissibility;
- you maintain contact with our partner institutions and support the management of current and new exchange agreements;
- you are responsible for communicating about the exchange options in mailings and on the website;
- You represent our faculty at important meetings and networking events.
Here you will work as an Exchange Officer for 32 hours
You will work in a small team consisting of a coordinator, an Exchange Officer and a Student Assistant who work together professionally in an informal way. In addition, the team works together with the Academic Director of International Affairs in supporting policy and strategic objectives in the field of student mobility. You can expect to be provided with clear frameworks and work instructions that you can quickly get started independently. We love to work hard but also to laugh a lot and make sure that we do that with each other every day. We find it important to maintain good contact with each other and work at least 50% of the time in the office.
This is what we ask of you
We are looking for a colleague who works carefully, enjoys working on multiple tasks and is able to maintain an overview of the various ongoing activities. In addition, we are looking for a networker, someone who naturally likes to maintain contacts and has an enthusiastic style of communication. Preferably you have experience working in an international environment and you are culturally sensitive. Finally, you enjoy working independently on projects.
Knowledge or experience that is an advantage are not included in the list but are mentioned above in a sentence.
- You have at least completed a higher professional education;
- you have demonstrable service experience and a customer-oriented attitude;
- you quickly acquire new knowledge and information and make it applicable in a complex organization;
- you have experience in maintaining an overview of various deadlines;
- you can communicate well (written and verbal) in both Dutch and English;
- You are skilled in working with systems and can quickly master them.
What do we offer you?
We offer a part-time employment contract (32 hours) for a period of one year with a trial period of two months. Subject to performance and financial and/or organizational changes, a permanent employment contract is possible.
