About the position
The nascent floating wind turbine industry is pushing the boundaries of engineering with ever larger machines designed to operate autonomously in harsh conditions. As the turbines and floating platforms increase in size, combined with the push to reduce the material use in constructing them, dynamic effects due to elasticity of the floating platform become more important. The OptiFLEX project, led by SINTEF Ocean and supported by experienced industrial partners, will combine experimental methods with direct and inverse numerical approaches to better understand these effects and how to account for them in design. We’re looking for a motivated PhD candidate to study the dynamics of these complex systems, particularly to understand the hydrodynamic loads which drive fatigue and extreme loads in the elastic hull structure.
