The student will employ a number of electrode fabrication approaches, including additive manufacturing and templated methods, to aid the developent of 3-D electrodes. This work will build on previous studies in the Zhang group (doi: 10.1038/s41563-022-01205-5). The student will also be expected to carry out in-depth electrode characterisation, using techniques including electrochemistry and electron microscopy. They will be expected to work in multi-disciplinary teams, in particular working closely with biologists to test the output of the electrodes.
Applicants must have (or expect to obtain) at least the equivalent of a UK upper second-class Master’s degree in chemistry, materials, engineering or other relevant degree subject. Experience with 3-D computer-assisted drawing tools and good communication skills are desirable. The candidate will gain experience a wide range of materials fabrication and characterisation techniques, as well as personal development and leadership skills.
