The Institute for Physical Artificial Intelligence (IPAI) at Purdue University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research position focused on developing innovative fabrication solutions for personalized healthcare and accessibility through wearable technology and artificial intelligence. The postdoctoral fellow will be mentored by Dr. Liang He (https://www.lianghe.me) from the Department of Computer Graphics Technology and Dr. Sooyeon Jeong (https://www.sooyeonjeong.com/) from the Department of Computer Science.
Research Focus Areas:
- Development of adaptive wearable systems for personalized healthcare or accessibility
- Exploration of novel material and mechanical structures for personalized wearable computing
- Prototyping of novel wearable devices with sensing and actuation capabilities through digital fabrication, materials science, mechanical engineering, and user-centered design approaches
- Implementation of machine learning algorithms for real-time perception, body, and movement sensing
- Human-centered design and evaluation
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fields
- Background in digital fabrication, wearable technology, sensing, mechanical engineering, smart textiles, or/and human-computer interaction (HCI)
- Strong programming skills and experience with machine learning frameworks
- Demonstrated publication record in relevant areas
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Position Details:
The postdoctoral fellow will receive annual salary support of $70,000 for 24 months with the option to renew for 12 months. They will also receive $2500 for professional development and $50,000 to support their research project.
