In this postdoc project, you will join a growing research group in operator algebras, which is preeminent in Sweden and among the strongest worldwide. Our young and dynamic team consists of five professors and several PhD students and postdocs. We value our open, supporting and inspiring atmosphere with weekly activities throughout the academic year.

Information about the division and the department
We are looking for a postdoc working on Operator algebras. The position is a full-time temporary employment for two years, funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation.

The candidate is expected to make progress in the understanding of amenability through the lenses of C*-dynamical systems, particularly in relation to the Elliott classification program. Connections with descriptive set theory may also be explored. The candidate will be supervised by Prof. Eusebio Gardella.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg has about 200 employees and is the largest department of mathematics in Sweden. We have an international environment with frequent exchanges with other universities around the world. We provide a friendly, creative, and supportive atmosphere with a steady flow of international guests. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all our activities. We work actively to be a parent-friendly organization.

At the division Analysis and Probability Theory we conduct research in areas such as functional and harmonic analysis, mathematical physics and probability theory.

Main responsibilities
You will conduct research in the group of Professor Eusebio Gardella. You are expected to independently develop new ideas in this collaboration.

Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The position may also include teaching on undergraduate and master’s levels as well as supervising master’s and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.

Qualifications
A PhD in mathematics or other relevant field, awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline. Knowledge of C*-algebras and crossed products is required. On the personal level you should be highly motivated and independent. Your ability to collaborate and to communicate in English will be considered in the assessment.

Contract terms
This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for two years.
